Week 5: October 10
Current status of project:As a follow-up to our change to a software-only project, the project scope was revised to cover only aspects of the software that would be relevant to signals analysis. For example, Bluetooth support will no longer be added, although the analysis algorithms will be in a format that would be compatible with the addition of Bluetooth support at a later point.
The team members’ responsibilities were also reassigned:
Work completed in the last week:
We considered some of the basic design obstacles and how to tackle them, such as the removal of low frequency noise via pre-use calibration. Also, the complexity of the software’s logic necessitated the separation of software design and algorithm design. Algorithm design will occur in Matlab, where it is easy to quickly write code. Software design will take place in Java, which is the primary language for the Android platform.
Work planned for next week:
Some textbooks on ECG analysis algorithm design will be procured and used to write some basic code in Matlab that can accurately analyze ECG data obtained from online databases. Also, the framework of the Android application will be written, with a placeholder for the signals analysis logic.
Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work:
The team members’ responsibilities were also reassigned:
- Samir Unni – software/application
- Vinod Ravikumar – algorithm design
- Stacy Yae – research diseases/corresponding ECGs, including visual interpretation

Anything needed from mentor/client or TA or instructor to continue work:
- Confirmation that prototyping the code in Matlab and then porting it to Java is the best approach
